Oxfam’s epic adventure through the Yorkshire Dales

Oxfam’s epic adventure through the Yorkshire Dales

The final preparations are in now in place for this weekend’s Oxfam Trailtrekker, an epic challenge in the Yorkshire Dales that changes lives forever. The event is expected to raise more than £300,000 for Oxfam’s emergency aid and development work around the world.

Now in its third year, the 100km circular hike from Skipton in Yorkshire has attracted 700 participants this year with 173 teams of four. The 30-hour hike is recognised as one of the toughest adventure challenges in the UK. Participants walk through the night along parts of the Leeds-Bradford Canal, the Pennine Way and the Dales Way. Walkers are rewarded with stunning vistas of the Dales, including Malham Cove and Pen-y-Ghent along the way.

Businesses and groups of friends in the area have been a great support to Oxfam Trailtrekker in previous years. In 2010 The Skipton Building Society, Yorkshire Bank, Manchester University and the Skipton Rugby Club entered teams.

WildFox Events will be working flat out to ensure that all participants are well cared for with four checkpoints and five water stops along the route. Catering staff are cooking up hundreds of portions of delicious pasta, stew, lasagna, curry and cake for the tired and weary. Teams from Athletes Angels will be on hand to gently revive participants with massage and physiotherapy.

Safety is absolutely paramount to WildFox Events. All participants must attend a safety briefing and their equipment is thoroughly checked before the event starts. Medical support teams from Matterhorn Medical, The Red Cross and the Mountain Rescue will be on hand to respond immediately to any incident.

Oxfam Trailtrekker is one of six great fundraising challenges being held by WildFox Events this summer. “As well as giving everyone who takes part a fantastic sense of personal achievement, all of our events are focused on supporting great charities such as Oxfam,” commented David Fox-Pitt.  Over £20 million has been raised by WildFox’s events for good causes to date.
