Operation Magic Porridge Pot, Malawi 2011

The WildFox team, together with Lindsay and Jeremy from The Artemis Charitable Foundation, set off for Malawi today to officially open five schools feeding over 8,000 children supporting the Mary’s Meals programme. These new feeding programmes have been started with funding from the 2011 Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon.
The team will be based at Blantyre and drive North to Mulanje for Monday and Tuesday where most of the schools are based. We will attend the feeding programmes where possible and meet the various teams involved in delivering the meals. On Wednesday the team will return to Mary’s Meals offices in Blantyre and then onto their main warehouse in town.
Phase two of the visit will involve visiting projects that have been funded through the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge starting off with Sightsavers who benefitted from 2009 to 2011 inclusive, receiving over £300,000. We will spend the rest of Wednesday visiting projects near to Blantyre.
Thursday will be spent with Habitat for Humanity who benefitted from years 2006 to 2008 inclusive, again raising over £300,000 for house building programmes through many countries including Malawi. Each house costs £1,000 to build on average and we look forward to visiting various projects all day within driving distance of Blantyre.
Friday and Saturday morning will involve site visits to WaterAid. WaterAid have been voted in as the Rob Roy International charity for the next three years and we look forward to seeing the wonderful projects in the field which may involve a short flight to the north of Malawi.
The visit will remind us all how important our work is and it will reinforce the amazing impact our event charity partners have on so many lives throughout the world. Watch the blog for updates from the trip.
